This is the police station. Scene of crime officers generally have scientific training and apply scientific techniques in the search for evidence. Detailed forensic tests are carried out on behalf of the police by the Home Office Forensic Science Service. Defence solicitors may also engage the services of the Forensic Science Service, so it is not unusual in trials to have scientists from the FSS appearing as witnesses for both the prosecution and the defence.
